The seed for iTutorFriends was planted through a family experience, one that profoundly changed my perspective on education and tutoring. It began with my younger sister’s academic struggles due to a misdiagnosed learning disability. In grade four, the challenges she faced in reading were daunting, and my parents were confronted with a bleak prognosis: she might never learn to read proficiently. Determined to change this, they invested in a tutor who worked with her every morning. The costs were substantial, but the outcome was nothing short of miraculous. Over two years, not only did my sister overcome her reading difficulties, but she also soared to university-level proficiency in reading, fluency, and retention.
The turning point came with the correct diagnosis of ADHD, a condition that, once treated, allowed her to excel academically, achieving A's and B's. The transformation in her confidence and personality was a joy to witness. She wasn’t just learning; she was thriving.
This journey led to an epiphany. My sister's success was partly due to our family's ability to afford private tutoring, a resource not accessible to everyone. I began to ponder: what about those who couldn’t bear such costs? It was during this time, while aiding my sister in her studies, that the idea for iTutorFriends crystallized.
